Unfortunately, if we don’t have a thankful heart, we may have an idle or complaining one. There is a variety of other conditions our hearts can be in and I want mine to be in a thankful condition.
Although, I don’t believe being thankful comes easy to everyone, I am thankful, being a thankful dog, comes naturally to me.
When my mom puts a special treat in my food bowl, I always sniff it, look back at her and then enjoy. I want her to know I appreciate the treat. Especially when they are homemade.
When the house wakes up, dad immediately puts me outside. He knows I am more comfortable checking the grounds before the sun comes up. That is why I give him a nice howl when I step outside.
I am thankful my mom likes to take walks because she takes me and my ball with her. So her walk is full of thankful howls.
I am thankful for whoever created dog toys. I am thankful my dad takes me to the pet store and allows me to pick out my own toys. Whichever toy I choose from the shelf, goes home with us and then we play until my parents get tired.
As full time travelers, we pass a lot of lakes and rivers. Dad stops as often as time permits so I can take a quick swim.
I thank him for these stops by resting my chin on his shoulder as we drive away. I want him to know just how much his efforts are appreciated.
I am thankful for my leash. Dad says, I don’t need to walk on a leash but sometimes we go places that require me to be on a leash to participate. So, I am thankful for my leash.
I am extremely thankful for restaurants that have dog friendly patios. My parents look for these quite often and I always get a dogie bag to enjoy afterwards.
I am thankful for my portable bed. With our frequent travels, I still get to sleep in my bed every night. ZZZZZZ
I am thankful for clean dogie areas at hotels, rest areas and gas stations. Broken glass in these areas hurt my paws! and makes the next few days difficult while they heal.
I am thankful for people who respect me by asking my dad permission to pet me, before doing so.
I am thankful dad gives me a bath after I’ve had too much fun. Otherwise, mom wouldn’t allow me in the house like this.
I am thankful when I get my own window.
I am thankful for my friends that I have across the country. Jake, Pippin, Dixie and Skippy, I will see you next time we are in your town!
I am thankful for farmers and ranchers that allow me to assist them with their livestock.
And as a working dog, I love a good day’s work!
I just can’t hold my thankfulness for 1 day a year. I am thankful every day!
